“O for Open”

“O for Open”

Traditions can be a consistent way to experience what we hold dear; a wonderful way to honor the cherished experiences we have come to love. But they can also hold us back from experiencing the new and pushing open the boundaries that are drawn around us. In 2011 I started a new tradition for myself to find a way to incorporate both of these experiences. In the month of January, I committed to try as many new things as I could as a challenge to myself and to bring a tribute and some positive energy into the new year. With 2012 well under way I have committed to this personal challenge every month.  Perhaps the most exciting, and best, decision I made in the new year was to sign up for an on-line art class entitled, Open Studio, by Misty Mawn. What I found here was generous and inspiring instruction rooted in the tradition of fine art techniques and some amazing artists who share my undying love and passion to create. This has been a wonderful immersion back to old materials  and techniques I have long abandoned, and kept me in the company of so many supportive and brilliant artists whom I consider friends.
